A 28-year-old Dharmendra was an unemployed Dalit local dancer at rural functions who lived with his disabled wife Usha Devi. He did not have an Aadhaar card in order to obtain a ration card to obtain affordable foodgrains and was at the mercy of the charity of villagers for survival. He died of hunger in the Allahabad district of Uttar Pradesh on the 31st morning. His disabled wife, who had also been hungry for several days is fighting for her life in a hospital. Tehsildar Ramkumar Verma who inspected the home after the death found no food whatsoever in the home.
