Even with the deadline for Aadhaar linking being extended to March 31, 2018, Indane Gas, among the largest suppliers of cooking gas in Chennai has gone ahead and frozen the connections of all customers who had not linked their Aadhaar to their gas connection by 31st December 2017.

Requests for refills are only being registered for those who have Aadhaar numbers linked. Distributors say that the connections without Aadhaar linked are blocked, while Indane officials deny that any such suspensions have happened and claim that the connections have been blocked for lack fo proper KYC. Distributors, however contradict this, saying that the system demands Aadhaar for unblocking and they are not able to unblock with only KYC.

Hindustan Petroleum allows the booking of refills, but without subsidy if Aadhaar details are not provided.

Needless to say, this is in complete violation of several Supreme Court orders asserting that citizens cannot be denied their rights for lack of Aadhaar.
